This project started when I organized Asian WorldWork in 1996 to deal with the issues of Japanese invasion to Asia during the WWII. After that event, I helped Iris Chan for her book of "Rape of Nanjing"which made a tremendous impact on the awareness of this issue in US. Some of the activities after 2000 include helping undergraduate students at Stanford University to organize a photo exhibition and a series of lectures regarding World War II in Asia. In that event, about thirty young students, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Philippine, and Americans, got together to educate Stanford community that the living history of World War II in Asia is more than what the history text book teaches.
Their willingness to take the history as their own and to work together for that difficult issue gave me a great hope for the future generation. In 2001, I attended a conference in San Francisco on the issues of WWII in Asia. This event was held at the same time as the
cerebration of San Francisco Peace Treaty, and I joined the demonstration of Asian people who claimed justice for the past Japanese war responsibility.
Recently Kaz, who was also a participant in Asian Worldwork invited me to initiate a project "Visit of Remorse to Nanjing." This project has faced several difficult issues to carry out the original idea and now plan to organize some Art event in Nanjing, collaboration of Japanese and Chinese artists.
